Croydon South MP pledges support

Monday 13th May 2013

On 9th May, MP for Croydon South, Richard Ottaway, visited London’s Air Ambulance, the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London, to pledge his support by generating awareness of the Charity in his constituency.  In 2012, London’s Air Ambulance attended 63 incidents in Croydon.

On his visit to meet the doctors and paramedics on duty at London’s Air Ambulance, on the roof of The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, Richard said: “It’s been a real privilege meet the team today.  The medical skills they bring to their patients so often make the difference between life and death. I am delighted to support their fund-raising campaign for a second helicopter to serve London.”

London’s Air Ambulance continues to deliver excellent medical care with one helicopter and medical team. With demands on the service ever increasing, more resources are required to expand the service by providing a second helicopter and increased daylight flying hours.  London’s Air Ambulance has an international reputation for clinical excellence and delivers pioneering procedures which have been adopted across the world.  More investment in its research and development arm allows it to continue to be at the forefront of medical innovation and to enhance its training arm.

Commenting, CEO Graham Hodgkin said: “London’s Air Ambulance pushes the boundaries in medicine to save the lives of critically injured people every day.  We are an integral part of London’s emergency infrastructure and are a service provided for Londoners by Londoners.  It is crucial to have the backing of politicians in local boroughs, with MPs spreading the word about the work that we do and encouraging businesses and individuals to support the charity in any way they can.”
