Winners at Charity Times Awards 2015
Wednesday 14th October 2015
Last week – alongside our partners Barts Health NHS Trust and London Ambulance Service – we scooped the ‘Cross-sector Partnership’ award at the Charity Times Awards for our pioneering work on REBOA, a technique to control haemorrhage in trauma patients.
REBOA was first developed in the Emergency Department at The Royal London Hospital, and after two years of development, the procedure was delivered for the first time at the roadside by us. It has been the culmination of several years of hard work by a variety of teams and individuals including The Royal London Hospital emergency department, interventional radiologists, trauma surgeons and anaesthetists, as well as paramedics from London Ambulance Service.
Now in its sixteenth year, the Charity Times Awards continue to be the pre-eminent celebration of best practice in the UK charity and not-for-profit sector. We were also shortlisted for ‘PR team of the Year’ for our 25th Anniversary campaign, and for the ‘Fundraising Technology’ award alongside our partner, Rapidata.
Barts Health NHS Trust employs and remunerates the advanced trauma doctors to us and provides our helipad facilities at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. We also work in partnership with London Ambulance Service, which provides the paramedics who are seconded to us.
Dr Gareth Davies, Medical Director at London’s Air Ambulance and Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Barts Health NHS Trust said:
“It is always an honour to be nominated for any award, but we are particularly thrilled to be recognised at the Charity Times Awards with our key partners. Our aim is to provide our patients with the world’s most innovative and effective pre-hospital care in order to help save more lives in London, and our partnerships help us to achieve this.”
