Professor David Lockey appointed to prestigious role

Our Research and Development Lead, Professor David Lockey, has taken up the position of Chairman of the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.  Professor Lockey is the first member of London’s Air Ambulance to be appointed to this prestigious role.

He is currently a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia in Bristol and Clinical Director of Severn Major Trauma Network. He was a registrar at London's Air Ambulance in 1997 and 2000 and has been a consultant at the charity, which provides an advanced trauma team for the 10 million people who live and work in London, since 2001. 

The Faculty of Pre-hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was set up around 30 years ago to improve standards in Pre-hospital Care and has run examinations since 1988. It is now the lead college for Pre-hospital training and oversees training, examinations and accreditation of doctors who want to achieve GMC sub-specialisation. It also runs two educational programmes (mountain medicine and remote offshore medicine) and is developing diplomas in urgent care, major incident management and retrieval / transfer medicine. The Faculty has also taken on a lead role in establishing multi professional roles for non-doctors.
