Students go Spartan for London's Air Ambulance
Tuesday 20th March 2018
We’re always incredibly humbled by our supporters who are willing to go above and beyond to help our charity to raise life-saving funds. However, students Kate and Kieran will not just be going above and beyond, but over fire, under wire and carrying tyres to raise money for our service. They will be taking on the Reebok Spartan Super, a 16km race with over 21 obstacles standing between them and the finish line.
The adventurous team met through Barts and the London Sailing Club and have been preparing for the challenge with runs across the Capital and strength training for the obstacles. Although apprehensive about the fitness levels required for the challenge, the two are nevertheless excited for the day. “I’m looking forward to the whole event, creating some great memories and completely destroying the course!” said Kieran.
Kate told us that the two have settled well into their team dynamic. “I am certain Kieran is the motivator of the team. I play a key role in supplying pizza and cake.”
They will be joining our charity’s Spartan Race team, who will be undertaking a daring obstacle course in aid of our charity. Beginners or those wanting to test their quickness can take on the Spartan Sprint, a 5km race with over 20 obstacles, while those wanting to test their endurance can take on the 16km Spartan Super like Kate and Kieran. Obstacles include rope climbs, traverse walls and a jump over fire.
The couple have already made an outstanding fundraising effort, with over £600 raised with 3 weeks still to go until the challenge.
Kate is currently studying for our intercalated BSc in Prehospital Medicine. “We chose to run for London’s Air Ambulance because I have seen first-hand the incredible work they do”, she said. “I was able to see the many lives that the charity has touched. The difference London’s Air Ambulance makes to patients and families is invaluable.”
We wish Kate and Kieran the best of luck on the day.
If you’re feeling inspired by Kate and Kieran’s story, there’s still time to join our Spartan Race team. Find out more information here
