The Impact of Volunteering
The support that we receive from volunteers at London's Air Ambulance is so valuable to us in many ways and the impact of the work that they do cannot be underestimated. Here are just a few examples of how much of an impact the work that our volunteers do has at London's Air Ambulance.
Collecting community donations
We have many volunteers who help us to look after our collection pots which are in shops, pubs and businesses across London. Keeping track of these and ensuring they are regularly emptied is a huge task and we rely on a team of dedicated volunteers to help us to ensure that the money donated by members of the public reaches us.
As well as regular teams of drivers and co-pilots, two of our volunteers, John and Tony, go out each week on foot to collect and replace full pots in London. Armed only with a shopping trolley, they visit establishments across London and return the full pots to us to be counted and banked. Earlier this year they broke all records by collecting over £700 in one day!
Raising income through charity pots and bucket collections is a big part of community fundraising at London’s Air Ambulance and this means that a lot of loose change comes through our doors! In order to record this income accurately and thank our supporters, we are supported by our money counting volunteers. Colin, Hilary and Saleha are responsible for counting all of the cash that is donated to us (with the help of a money counting machine!) and ensuring that everything is recorded accurately. They spend hours every week ensuring that everything is counted and recorded accurately, something that saves us a huge amount of time and money
There is a great deal of work that goes in to making our events happen and our Events team couldn’t manage without the support of our team of volunteers. From contacting and supporting our event participants and encouraging them to reach their fundraising targets, to helping source prizes for raffles and auctions, we rely on our wonderful volunteers in all areas of event management.
‘Our volunteers are simply invaluable to us when it comes to making our events happen. They help us with everything from research to event delivery. In order to maximise fundraising from our Christmas Carol Service last year, one of our volunteers, Carol, managed to source free mulled wine and over 200 mince pies for all of our guests. This not only saved the charity a huge amount of money but also saved my colleagues and I a great deal of time which allowed us to focus on other areas of event planning.’ Lily, Events Manager
The difference that volunteers make to London’s Air Ambulance is huge and there are so many things that we wouldn’t be able to do without their dedication and passion for the charity. Thank you to everyone that has volunteered their time to us – we really appreciate all that you do.
